 Your L.I.F.E. E.M.P.O.W.E.R.E.D.™

Lifestyle choices, although a hard pill for most people to swallow, are major contributors to the occurrence of diseases such as obesity, cardio vascular, arthritis, high blood pressure and diabetes, to name just a few.

Lifestyle includes the behavior and activities that make up your daily life including the food we eat, what we drink, the type and amount of exercise we get, the work you do, your leisure activities, your interaction with family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and strangers.   Although there are some things we can’t control, we absolutely can learn how to control our lifestyle choices and lower the risk of disease and possibly reverse the effects of existing diseases.  True change starts with acknowledging deep down inside that it is time to take another path. You are now a part of our BOOM Shake® Fitness family and we welcome you on your health journey.

Invest in yourself.  You are an individual before you are a parent, sibling, grandparent, spouse, employee or friend, etc.  Don’t allow life to pass you by without taking time for yourself.

Prioritize your person as a necessity in your life and the life of others and do something good for your body, mind and spirit.  The world is your muse and you have an unlimited number of options such as joining a BOOM Shake® session where your spirit can be free, take a nap, enjoy a massage to the sounds of nature, or escape for a night or weekend.   Take the time to read a book, enroll in the class you’ve had an eye on for years, pursue an interest that gives you butterflies, meet with a business mentor who can take your business to another level or help bring your dream to fruition.  Get the tools and knowledge with a BOOM Shake® Life Coach and open your wings and soar. Treat yourself as your #1 investment and care for yourself just as you do for others. What will everyone do if something happens to you? Be proactive.

Fuel your body based on what makes it thank you with performance and good health. It’s true that one size does not fit all when it comes to the food we should eat to maintain a healthy body.

Considering that we are all individuals, identifying the right combination of food will provide the energy and nutrients you need to become or remain healthy. With food allergies varying from seafood to carrots, it’s important to be in tune with your body and what it tries to tell you.  Typical nutrients include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water2 as well as colorful fruits and vegetables, nuts, beans and seeds.  Have you heard the saying “you are what you eat”? Do you want your engine to rev like a Lamborghini or sputter like a hoopty?  It all starts with the fuel you put in your body. Start keeping a daily food journal so a BOOM Shake® Health Coach can help guide you to what works best for your body.  You can begin today by adding colorful fruits or vegetables to your next meal!

Exercise weekly with cardiovascular activities, such as BOOM Shake® and strength training.

Exercise has been proven to help promote weight loss and improves our mood, focus and sleep patterns.  Most importantly, exercising to the American Heart Association® or your doctor’s recommendation improves overall health and helps to prevent diseases such as diabetes, cardio vascular disease and high cholesterol.  In addition to cardio exercise, participating in an individual or group strength training class promotes healthy bones and helps to fight aging diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis. Lifting very light weights helps our trunk to be stronger which can decrease the risk of injury and better support our hips, knees and back and improve balance.  Ask about our Certified Personal Trainer programs and Worksite Wellness Programs. It’s time to get moving!

Educate yourself and stay one step ahead of the game. The world is ever changing and evolving so we need to keep our knowledge and skill set sharp, current and well rounded.

Continuing education can be obtained no matter where you are in your life and no matter your level of education.  Many classes and workshops are offered online and in person which allows for flexibility and the option of self-paced classes for the working participant.  Continuously educating ourselves has many benefits including improved self-worth, satisfying a personal goal or interest, preparing for entrepreneurialism, earning higher wages, increased marketability, job stability, and upward mobility.  You are never too young, mature or smart to enroll in a workshop, class, certificate or college program.  Be proactively prepared for when your next door opens and invest in your education. Don’t be left behind.

Meditate and get to know your soul, connect with the universe, and unleash your full potential.

It’s no myth that meditating heals your body, mind and spirit.  “In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside you,” says Deepak Chopra. Meditation decreases stress, improves overall health and mood, unleashes creativity and improves one’s awareness of their being, inner beauty and true self.  If you feel as if your mind is racing all the time and you never quite settle down, open your mind to meditation and learn to settle your spirit and connect with yourself.

Positive thinking can turn a frown upside down.  It sounds cliché, however when is the last time you consciously woke up on the right side of the bed and were empowered to control your day?

We have more power than we give our minds credit for and we often succumb to the negativities around us.  You have the power to make it a great day and it starts the moment you open your eyes or with the handling of a potentially negative situation with a more positive approach.  The health benefits that positive thinking may provide include enjoying an increased life span, lower rates of depression and stress, stronger immune system, better physiological and physical well-being, better cardiovascular health and better coping skills.  Remember, your worst day will never be somebody’s best day so take control and make every day great!  Your goal tomorrow is to wake up with a new attitude and stay strong throughout the day. Run your day, don’t let the day run you.

Opportunities are often created by problems that require a creative mind to resolve the issue.

Some people get frustrated with hurdles and never get over them while others find a way to build a bridge to get around or over the hurdles all while selling the tools they used on the way.  While we can sit around and wait for an opportunity for something new and exciting to come our way, we can empower our future by creating our own field of unlimited potential. Expand your horizon by saying yes more often, be prepared and don’t hesitate when deciding, believe in yourself and be willing to take a risk, surround yourself with new people, focus on your goals, and always keep a positive attitude.  Even if the opportunity doesn’t work out the first time, you would have gained new knowledge and experience that you can take on your next adventure.

Water, water everywhere, including in our bodies!

According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart alone are composed of 73% water so get to drinking!  It is true that our bodies have minimum daily water recommendations to help replenish ourselves throughout the day and especially when we sweat and exercise.  Dehydration has many side effects including headaches, dizziness, disorientation, dry eyes, dry mouth and even fainting, therefore water is a vital nutrient to the life of every cell because it regulates body temperature, lubricates joints, transports the metabolized carbohydrates and proteins in the bloodstream and assists with flushing waste.   Eight glasses a day is a great goal, however one needs to consider their lifestyle to determine if it is sufficient amount or if the higher intake recommendations of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) or per doctor recommendations work better for your body.   Don’t like the taste of water? Try adding lemons, cucumbers, watermelon, limes or ginger.

Embrace and love yourself, all of you, including your bumps, bruises, hiccups, the hurdles you’ve jumped, decisions you’ve made, places you’ve been, places you shouldn’t have gone, and the things you should have and shouldn’t have done.

Accept who you are and where you are right now in this moment in time.  It is no coincidence that you are here because you’ve been seeking something or someone to help lead and guide you on your journey.  Now is your time for change, to reclaim yourself in body, mind in spirit. What kind of L.I.F.E. do you want to live? Embrace yourself and take control.  Your BOOM Shake® Fitness family is here to support you on your journey.

Rest and make sleep a priority. When’s the last time you had a good night’s sleep and woke up feeling refreshed?

We’re always on the go, however our bodies are meant to shut down, rejuvenate and recharge from the monotony of the day.  Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, safety and it’s a necessary part of weight management and improved immune function.  Restful sleep also supports diabetes prevention and helps us to maintain safety and focus throughout the day.  If you feel like your brain never stops and you think all night, try yoga, meditation, deep breathing, or stretching before laying down for the night.  Try turning off your electronics and journal for five or ten minutes before you turn the lights out to break up your thought process and leave your thoughts by your bedside until the morning.

Enjoy life and laugh.  “Humor is like food. You have it every day. You have to have a sense of humor and be able to laugh at yourself,” said Sid Caesar.

Laughter is a positive sensation that has been proven to reduce stress, improve effects of depression, improves mental health and the immune system, and contributes to an overall healthy life.  We need to consciously think differently and look at the brighter side of things and laugh at some of the situations we’ve gotten ourselves into intentionally and unintentionally.  If your life, your career or the relationships and people around you don’t make you smile, the good news is that you have the power to be empowered and make a change. Accept what you can’t change and change what you can; and in the interim, wake up with a smile on your face and embrace your day knowing that it’s getting you one step closer to your goal, your dream, your next chapter.

Doctor visits can be stressful especially if we haven’t been feeling ourselves – however, they are imperative to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Many people delay going to the doctor for months or even years until experiencing a medical event or emergency…don’t be that person.  To maintain a long, productive and healthy life, it is important to build a relationship with your general practitioner and any specialists on your medical team of experts.  One key to stopping a disease in its tracks is to identify it early and take proactive measures to improve your condition and decrease your risks of additional disorders. Make the most out of your doctor visits by preparing your medical history and any signs or symptoms you may be experiencing.  THIS IS YOUR LIFE!!! Take notes at every doctor appointment and do research prior to your appointment and after you receive recommendations. Please don’t put it off any longer. Be empowered and schedule your appointment for your annual visit, gynecology, mammogram, colonoscopy, prostate exam, dental and eye exams and specialist visits for PTSD, depression, anxiety, food, drug or alcohol addiction.  Life is short so make it as healthy as possible with proactive and preventive steps to maintain good health. #YOLO – YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE.
